Frequently Asked Questions

Nigerian LawCompass is a legal research platform covering four types of content: Cases (Judgments), Ratios (extracted legal principles), Statutes (federal and state legislation), and Rules of Court (procedural rules by jurisdiction).

Each content type follows the structure of the real source document. Statutes are organized into Parts and Sections (with Subsections, Schedules, and Subsidiary Legislation where applicable). Rules of Court are organized into Orders and Rules, also grouped into Parts where the source document uses them. We don't flatten documents into generic pages — the structure you see mirrors how the actual legal instrument is drafted.

New Cases, Statutes, and Rules are added on an ongoing basis. The homepage's "Recently Added" section always shows the latest additions across all four content types.

There are three tiers: Scholar (Ratios and Statutes), Advocate (adds Cases), and Sanctum (adds Rules of Court on top of everything else). Every tier includes Ratios and Statutes as a baseline.

Visit the Membership Levels page and select a different plan. Your access updates according to your new plan's content permissions.

If you try to view content outside your current plan (for example, a Case on the Scholar plan), you'll be redirected to the Membership Levels page to upgrade.

Use the search bar in the top navigation or on the homepage. Results are grouped by content type (Cases, Ratios, Statutes, Rules of Court) so you can quickly find what you're looking for within the right category, with a toggle between Card and List views.

Every Case, Section, Order, and Schedule page has a "Copy Citation" button that copies a properly formatted citation to your clipboard instantly.

Yes — Statute Sections have an "Add to Favourite" button. You need to be logged in to use this feature.

Yes — Statute Sections support a 5-star rating. Like Favourites, you need to be logged in to rate something.

Some Statutes and Rules of Court are organized into Parts, where one Part can span multiple Sections or Orders. "Jump to Part" lets you navigate directly to the first Section or Order under a given Part, without scrolling through everything in between.

Yes. On Android (Chrome), look for "Add to Home Screen" in the browser menu. On iPhone (Safari), tap the Share icon and choose "Add to Home Screen." Once installed, it opens like a normal app, named "NLC."

Pages you've already visited stay available offline. If you try to open a page you've never visited while offline, you'll see a message explaining the page hasn't been saved yet, rather than a generic browser error.
