An Act to establish the Administration of Justice Commission with responsibility, among other things, for the general supervision of the administration of justice. The Act established a Federal Commission chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria and State Committees chaired by Chief Judges of States, with functions including ensuring the maintenance and adequate financing of the court system, adherence to codes of ethics by judges and court officers, speedy disposal of criminal matters, reduction of case congestion in courts, reduction of prison congestion, minimizing detention of persons awaiting trial, and promoting cordial relationships among organs of the administration of justice. The Act has beenΒ repealedΒ and its functions largely subsumed under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, which established the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee.
