PRINCIPLE STATEMENT
Being called an Odi requires that the person must have been in service. The initiation of the Odis is a private affair between the Oba and the Odis. It is only when the young Odis become old and are to start performing on their own that they are initiated on the authority of the Oba.

EXPLANATION / SCOPE
Initiation by the Oba is required for Odis to perform traditional duties. The principle applies to customary chieftaincy. Service is also required. The rule ensures proper qualification. The court will respect customary requirements. The principle is well-established.
